I started Deer Architects because I’ve always been fascinated by how spaces shape the way we live, especially when they don’t work as they should.

Wrong rooms. Blocked light. Spaces that didn’t quite work for the people living in them.

Every project we take on starts with listening- to the house, and to you. Because the best architectural design doesn’t impose. It responds.

We’re pleased to see this Pen y Lan home come together, a space filled with natural light, framed views of the garden, a balanced palette of warm tones, natural wood, off-white walls and zinc cabinets.

Working with builder C & M Developments and joiner Oakes Interiors was a truly collaborative effort.

The concept focused on high ceilings, modern details while creating a unified flow from the front door through to the kitchen and deep into the utility. Wooden elements repeated thoughtfully carried through each room, creating a cohesive palette that runs throughout the entire house.

Happy International Women’s Day, especially to the women who work hard to pursue their career ambitions.

My degree was far from easy, it was one of the most emotionally and mentally challenging journeys I’ve taken.

When I first started studying architecture, I knew very little about it, only that it combined the things I loved: art, history, people and maths(logic) and if I saw it through it would be an amazing achievement.

Over time, it has become more than a subject; architecture is now a way of seeing the world and appreciating the meaningful things in life. The aim is to explore this in my clients’ spaces I create.

Spaces designed to be lived in, loved and remembered #architecture

The garden should never be an afterthought. 🌿

This project was all about creating intentional, considered moments throughout the home — so the exterior had to hold the same level of care. From thresholds and brick detailing to drainage lines and material junctions, every element was designed to feel purposeful. The garden becomes an extension of the architecture, not just something you step into, but something you experience through framed views, texture, and crafted edges.

Because thoughtful design doesn’t stop at the back door.

Clients really enjoy interacting with a physical model because it allows them to experience the space from multiple perspectives in a tangible way. By moving around it, looking through openings, and viewing it at eye level, they can better understand sightlines, proportions, and the connection to the garden. It becomes a shared design tool rather than just a presentation piece, helping them visualise the impact of decisions and feel more involved in the process.

Model making was central to how we developed the Llanishen project, particularly in understanding the relationship between interior living spaces and the garden beyond. Working physically at scale allowed us to test how views could be prioritised and framed without altering the existing roof form.
